Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure (thats what its called yeh? The DS titles) are exactly like that and those are quality games..

The true 3d versions could never capture the speed and the charm of the original 2d games. To me Sonic was about Speed, Rings and beating Robotnik, thats it. As a character I find him, Bart Simpson like; I'm so damn Badical because I'm fast, that got old a long time ago.
