he is actually right, the internet is made out of HTML/JavaScript/XHTML... codes, which are all text, BUT they generate images which are pleasant to view, and isn't Lynx for linux only? Also let me ask you something desi do you yourself actually use Lynx?

nope just numbers 33. its a very old webname. like 10 years. jac is my prefered. i think when i made it jac was taken so i chucked 33 (bball shirt number) and it was taken to and then au. bingo

Ok, I was just wondering because it was possible, anyone else that I have seen with numbers in their name were either before or after letters, and it is common to use 1337 in your name.

Lynx is multi-platform.

And yes, I do use Lynx on occasion. I built my website with the help of Lynx, not because people are still using text-only, but as a matter of pride.

I also like to boost my own ego by looking at my favourite sites on Lynx and seeing how unfriendly they are to browsers that don't render images, or have images turned off.

1) As a matter of pride, I built my website to load in a second or less over a 56k connection. The basic template of each page uses five different images, the largest 5.27KB. I don't often have extra images because my site is about writing (or at least it was, and it will be again soon).

2) It makes me feel good, because I see how inadequately most people design their websites. People don't know how to use the alt attribute on an image because Internet Explorer destroyed the HTML spec and shows it as a hovering title. It's not a title: it's for use with browsers that won't display images, and if someone is trying to browse your site using a braille reader or a text-to-speech converter and you're using images as your navigation tools, they won't be happy when they get "Button, Button, Button" instead of "Home, Articles, Contact" or something equally helpful.

Both are functionally identical. Notice that the navigation links are separated by vertical bars that are present in the alt text of the corresponding images, so that a text-to-speech converter can properly show the beginning and end of each link.

'130. In passing.' being outdented to the left of the body text in the text-only version is because I used an H1 tag where most people would just stick it in there and hope for the best.

It's not all about elitism, really, but mostly about the site's purpose. The site is about text, so the proper delivery of text is a priority.
