Its fairly well known amongst the design community you go to uni for a degree, and you go to TAFE to actually learn how to design. I didn't even bother applying for uni for that reason. My brothers GF did Graphic Design at uni for 5 years and passed and she only knew one program: Photoshop!

Yet I knew how to use Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, Lightwave, Final Cut Pro, Director and After Effects within a single year at TAFE. The extra two years were just pushing my knowledge and application of these programs further. I loved doing it too, it was a fantastic course.

Sarukan do you use Illustrator? I couldn't understand how she passed without knowing Illustrator. I thought that would be all but essential to being a Designer...

I did from Cert 4 to Advanced Diploma (which I failed because my teacher lost a CD full of my end of year work and I never bothered to rectify the situation lol).

Yeh i know what you mean dude.... we got taught the basics in the adobe package (illustrator, photoshop, a little on indesign) mind you at that time pagemaker and quark were popular. Also got tought director and dreamweaver. I went a few steps further in learning indesign, flash
and learning by myself photoshop, illustrator and indesign to the point that i knew the

all the programs back to front. We did use illustrator at uni was one of the main programs to use , besides quark and indesign and acrobat. I like to keep in touch with the lastes adobe programs but am more into the design side of things... don't use much director or dreamweaver these days as i don't do too much animation or webpages. I found that photoshop is just to make your artwork look pretty and to use filters. It's funny how people are amazed on someone doing an artwork in photoshop (when it's later broken up to see what they did and to find out 90% of the things done are filters

)
