Super Smash Bros \ Why does Brawl lag SO much for me!?

Ok so I thought what the heck, I might as well try and play Smash Brothers Online again. So I tried to play online, and EVERY SINGLE game I entered with 2 or 3 other players it would lag like all hell. Absolutely unplayable. I sat there for about 5 minutes and only 3 seconds went off the actual game clock, thats how bad it was. Worst of all I could not even exit the game because it was so laggy. This happens in nearly every game I enter with 2 or 3 players.

But for some reason, when I play 1 v 1 it usually works fine with no lag or very little lag. I can also spectate with no lag at all. So what the heck is wrong with Smash Bros online?

(I have 256k/64k internet connection, its wired so it should run even faster)

Because it could be the people on the other side might have real crappy connections or they might be too far away from you (in another country maybe)

It has happened to me also thats why i don't play SSBB anymore ><
Or i tend to just stick playin with people in my region (though it doesn't help if the people ur playing with have real ****ty connections) and yours is good

So in the end its a win-loose situation...

It just really pisses me off how it doesn't have an option to play with people from your country, like Mario Kart Wii does.

I would not call my connection good, but its enough to play online lag free, well it should be. People on youtube post videos of them playing brawl with dial up and they get no lag! So I have no idea what is going on but I am quite annoyed.

All i can say about this subject is that Online is the one thing in SSBB that stopped it from being the best game on the console.

If Nintendo made online leaderboards, more options, made the game with no lag and had rankings for this game people would be playing this game endlessly with the amount of replayability.

But instead they made the Online literaly unplayable. I now only play the game locally when i have a couple of mates over. It really is a blast. Its a shame they couldnt make the online like that.

Am i only one of the few that is dissapointed with this game in some way?

No your not, in fact I thought it was very poor.

Subspace Emmisary is the worst attempt at a single player game I have seen in my life. Towards the end is the worst also, when you have to fight every single boss again and work your way around a boring, annoying a pointless maze.

Then there is the crappy Online.

Apart from these two factors though its a very good game.

I disagree, Subspace Emmisary was great I really enjoyed it besides the constant repetitive side scroller levels. I thought the bosses and storyline cut scenes were great .

You connection is 256/64? O_O

Regardless of connection speed, SSBB is unfortunately a very laggy game. Hell I'm on a 1500 connection and even I can't escape the lag issues with it.

So even though your connection COULD cause problems it's not that, it's just the mockery and stuff up of what Nintendo call Brawl WFC.

256/64 isn't excatly modern speed these days. i'd recommend getting higher speeds to decrease chances of laggy games. Sure you're bound to find yourself in a laggy match here and there but how you wrote it, it looks as though it's your connection than others.

True Frodo, but heres the thing which I have never understood with online games.

Mario Kart Wii online is flawless, no matter who I play and where they live. Halo 3 was flawless also when I used to play, I always had a good connection even against Americans. Other games also worked well on my connection.

I agree that it is my connection to an extent, but I feel the actual crappy online mode is also to blame.

Brawl lags for me as well and I have a very good internet connection. The concept of brawling online is excellent, but when I have to wait forever to get a game and when I do get in, it is unplayable. I have had very good experiences online though but when I play and for example press A, half a second later the command reaches the game. This is very difficult to control and is very frustrating.

There are a lot of flaws in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Drop outs, connection problems, Brawl lag. The US and Japan also experience this lag on Brawl. It is not a problem with your connection, it a problem with Nintendo WFC. Something needs to be done to improve the service. Possibly shutting down the connection and fixing the service.

As for the Subspace Emmisary, the cutscenes look great but apart from that, the mode is very average. It is some of the most tedious adventure games I've played. It gets VERY repetitive and the game feels like it's going nowhere. The bad thing is that you have to play this through to unlock most of the things in the game. The enemy design is probably the worst design's I've seen in a long time. A very bad mode. Boring.

The thing that annoyed me most is that just after you finally finish the boring story mode, they put you through an entire maze again in which you must verse every single character and every single boss whilst running around a pointless and frustrating maze.

i know excatly what you mean, i have a 360 which i play online also, and one game LOTR: BFME II is one i play often. It never lags (at All) i even play that game when i'm capped on 64/64 and it still never lags even though the game has a lot going on.

I don't get it either.

The lag is ridiculous, I have an adsl2 connection living right next to an exchange and I still seem to get lag. The only thing that can save it for me I think is getting the wired adapter..

I have to agree, the "Play With Anyone" online brawls are the worst ever. I once played with two other people and it lagged so much that I couldn't even disconnect. I had to reset my Wii.

I personally think SSE is good, I don't think it gets THAT repetitive. But that's just my opinion.

there are actually quite a few factors causing lag in SSBB,
1.your internet is only as fast as the slowest persons internet in your game.
2.there isnt a brawl server in australia yet.
3.your far away from your router or you have a microwave in between your wii and your router. (yes, microwaves do stuff up routers)

i'd have to say that the 1st one is probably the biggest contributor to lag.
