You get a gold wheel when you use the Wii Wheel a lot.

You get stars for how well you do in a Grand Prix. For example, if you win every Grand Prix [50cc, 100cc, 150cc, Mirror] with two stars, you will get two stars next to your name online.

You MUST win every Grand Prix with a certain amount of stars to make them appear next to your name online.

The rankings go like this:

Hey dude,

The gold wheel I think symbolises that you use your wii wheel often.

The stars are indicators of completion of Grand Prixs in single player mode.

So for example if you have a 1 star ranking for all the cups you will have a star on your online profile and so forth.

Nope, might be getting a job soon. I just play soccer and go to school for now.

And no, you don't need 100% usage for the golden wheel. You just need to use it a lot.

HEY! I wasn't that bad to convert! I just realised that it's mega hard to use the wheel with bikes.....and I also hated bikes back then....Wow how much have I changed? lol.

It's up to you mate, i've seen golden wheel with 3 stars online in a race and he did quite well...

lol, I was exactly like you. I liked the wheel when I used karts, but when I switched to bikes it got much harder.
