what i meant by "internet" is being online. you can't go online with your PS3 via a switch.

yes you can, if you have a adsl modem, go through a hub and it will work fine, i have mine doing that right now

Yer i Followed what you said *oh i did this last night that why i never replyed* and it crashed my net Thankfully i knew how to fix it. I guess i'll just wait for my new modem to come when we cross over to bigpond.

Like i have said a router request the Ethernet port to be working and when ever i plug a router or anything for that matter in to it. I get Limited or no connectivity. GOSH!!!

Are you referring to the ethernet port on your computer? If so, is it an integrated ethernet? You might want to check the settings on it under the BIOS (to make sure it is ENABLED), update the driver on your motherboard for that particular NIC and also make sure that the 'LINK SPEED&DUPLEX' corresponds to either 'AUTO NEGOTIATE' or 100MB FULL.

As previously mentioned, using this relatively cheap approach does pose a bit of complexity as it demands the user to have a bit of know how in networking compared to the router approach involving little tinkering as possible.

BIOS is on during the startup of your computer from being 'powered-off'. It should be something like 'Press DEL to enter BIOS'. You access the BIOS by pressing the delete button and find your way through there. Each motherboard for each pc is unique so I can't tell exactly which Sub-menu to look for.

**NOTE**
If you areunfamiliar with the BIOS setup, I advised you that you consult your motherboard manual and have a thorough read on the internet before fiddlign around with your computer BIOS. It is possible to render your pc unable to boot again if the wrong settings are applied.
