Tails’ Virtual Console Reviews #2 - 10/10
Introduction
Yes, its round 2 of those classic & new games I, Tails will be reviewing for you. Yes I know I may be reviewing for the sake of something that happens monthly on mywii *shifty eyes* but I was reviewing a lot beforehand until I got epically busy this year. In this time of being slack, *cough* I mean working hard, I did happen to play my wii when I had some sort of free time especially when our internet was down the Virtual Console games were our saviour of the day, or were they… DUN DUN DUN!
Streets of Rage: SEGA Genesis
points: 800
I ask my gamer friends if they have this game/or even played it, and the response is usually “whaaat? Don’t you mean street fighter?” GTFO. This is a fantastic fighting game that does actually cause rage, on streets. It’s a side-scrolling fighter, like your Double Dragon and the first Ninja Gaiden, and is basically a modern Golden Axe. Never heard of those games? Well then why are you on mywii?
The story is given to you as soon as you start up the game, with a great 16 bit sound track throughout the whole game. The plot basically goes, the city once was a peaceful town until a secret criminal syndicate somehow managed to take over. The organization then absorbed the city government, even the metropolitan police! Looting, random violence and destruction are frequent. “no one is safe walking the streets, day or night…”
I did do an animation using the sprites from this game ‘cause that’s how much I love it. It’s basically un-heard of and really is a must for you if you’re up for an out there fighting game. With great team attacking moves (if played Co-op), a variety of attacks, amazing level design, and very awesome background music. It truly is a masterpiece of SEGA’s fine work, of course back then.
Paper Mario 64: Nintendo 64
points: 1000
Oh my yes, it’s got Mario in it! And it’s on the N64! This must be good! Damn straighter, brother. I could really just end this review right now. It is a great game, back in the day when “gay” meant; joyful or happy. I’m serious, it’s really quiet colourful in a way and is a very well thought game. Basically it’s Mario, yes shut up I know he's YOUR hero, in a RPG, where everything is made of paper. Awesome, I know.
You can just guess the story, set in the mushroom kingdom as the plumber in the overalls tries to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. To do as of such, he must require the seven star spirits to pwn Bowser and his Star Rod, which gives him invincibility. You’re teamed up with randoms along the way, each with their special traits and attacks. You fight or versus enemies in a sort of theatre way, on a turn-by-turn basis. There's many elements that come into play when battling, such things called “badges” can give you different abilities and increase your win status at the cost of “flower points” basically MP, when you level up you’re faced with the decision of either: HP, FP (flower points, again MP), and BP (badge points, or slots for more badges). Honestly I’m trying my best to explain it, but it really is a player experience touch and go.
All of your favourites form everywhere, Mario related are in this game. You meet Goomba’s to Boo’s and even shy guys! It may be a tad expensive on the Wii shop channel, but if you’re ever up for a RPG that includes both Nintendo & Mario, then hit this up.
