Miyamoto Talks Star Fox & Popularity Decline

Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto is a self-confessed big fan of the Star Fox series, but sales have continued to decline since the debut title.

Speaking to MTV Multiplayer Miyamoto revealed that sales have been steadily declining with each Star Fox game. This may very well explain why the series is yet to make an appearance on Wii.

"I tend to forget those games [laughs]. I'm a big fan of the Star Fox games. Every time we make a Star Fox game I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the Star Fox games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games," said Miyamoto.

He's previously expressed disappointment that the most recent Star Fox games have been outsourced to other developers - Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64) was the last game made by Nintendo.

Second? Wtf?

Popularity tends to decline when you fail to make a game in a franchise after many years. Maybe that is a good incentive to make another one?

This. My god, THIS!

Seriously, the Star Fox games have been getting worse and worse since Lylatwars, Assault was actually good, but it was laughably short, which really brought it down. It's multiplayer was awesome though, that needs to come back, if nothing else.

Oh and bring Andross back already, it's not like Bowser or Ganon haven't come back after being killed.

Also, I wonder what Miyamoto thinks of F-Zero, and why it hasn't had a Wii installment already...

Although, to be honest, I'd take a new Star Fox or a true sequel to DK 64 or Pokemon Stadium over it though.
