Creating a shirt in Animal Crossing
Introduction
So, you want to make a cool shirt in Animal Crossing do you?
With this guide to making shirts you can be the most popular person on your block (assuming the block is empty and you are the only one who lives there).
Size Matters
The shirts in Animal Crossing are 32 pixels by 32 pixels so it is important to keep any images you are using to this size.
The image you choose is up to you. You can draw your own picture or take an existing picture.
Most of the sprites from NES, SNES or Gameboy games are already this size (or smaller) so it makes the job easier. If the image you want is larger, then you will need to resize it.
So how do I find pictures?
The first thing to do is find a sprite sheet. This is easy.
Go to http://www.google.com
Type
character name + sprites
ie- Pikachu + sprites
Click on the image you want to use, then click See Full Image Size
Save the picture to your computer
Using the picture for the shirt
Don't forget, the image must be 32x32 pixels.
Copy the image section you want into a new image or crop the image
Center it in a 32x32 image.
Change the background to transparent
Here we have a Pikachu that is within the 32x32 pixels:
And here we have something a little more ambitious:
Again, we will need to crop it and resize it so it fits the 32x32 pixels:
Making the shirt cooler
Well the pikachu is kinda boring right? Let's make it a little bit better!
I did a google search for lightning and found this:
Resize it so it fits in a 32x32 image
Paste the Pikachu image on top of it
That's a pretty cool looking picture! Now its ready for our Animal Crossing shirt.
Making the image pixelate
The next step is to resize the image so it pixelates. This will help you see it better. I resize it by 700% (7 times).
To make the image stand out more I paste a grid (with transparent boxes) over the top of it:
And now the picture looks as follows!
And also:
Re-colouring the image
The colour palette in Animal Crossing is very limited. So what you need to do is find one thats closest to the picture you are creating.
Start a new t-shirt design and choose the colour palette that matches what you are trying to do. Take a photo of the colour palette and send it to your computer.
The next step is to recolour the pixels so they match the ones in the colour palette.
One method is to use the colour finder to choose the colour and a replacer/filler to recolour the image.
An easier method is to save the colour palette as an image, and then save the colours into its own palette:
For example, I put the image into Paint Shop Pro and changed the colours to 16.
I then saved the colours into its own palette.
The next step was to load the resident evil picture and then load the palette.
The recolouring was automatic:
So you can really make cool shirts huh?
There are so many shirts you can do once you get the hang of it!
So how do I put the shirt design in the game?
That's the hard part unfortunately. To my knowledge there is no short cut to doing this (maybe with the DS?).
If your wii and PC are in the same room then just turn from one to another as you design your shirt. If not-
Print out the image or Write down each line on a piece of paper (you only have 32 to do):
LB, 3G, DB-
2LB, 3G, DB-
LB, W, LB, 2R, G, DB-
Translation
Light Blue, 3 Grey, The rest Dark Blue
2 Light Blue, 3 Grey, The rest Dark Blue
Light Blue, White, Light Blue, 2 Red, Grey, The rest Dark Blue
Finally you need to go to the tailor and colour in your shirt one line at a time (marking each line as you go so you dont miss a line from fatigue).
And we are done
Now you have a really cool shirt or flag!
